Many years ago, when I was a little girl, my school had a film day. We were herded to the auditorium and treated to a movie. Thrilled to be out of the classroom, we couldn’t wait for that screen to light up.
Was it going to be Tom & Jerry?
Oh, that would be too cool!
Or Popeye?
He’s my hero!
The scene began….A little boy wakes up with a lion-sized yawn, stretches his arms.
He rubs his eyes and stumbles into the bathroom where he washes his face, brushes his teeth.
Off to the kitchen, where Mom has toast waiting for him.
Then, the best of the day – going out to play. So, he puts on his sneakers, changes into his shorts, T, reaches for a ….
gas mask?????
Yes, gas mask. Next came, the bunny suit you see in horror films about nuclear plant disasters.
He swings the door open and marches outside, looking into a horizon of wasteland, dead remnants of trees, junk that used to be flowers and grass scattered about.
Everything’s gray and dirty. The sky is smoke-filled charcoal.
This is where my happiness plummeted into disappointment.
I wanted my money back!
But, even as a child, the fear was unavoidable. Was this our future?
You’ve heard me rant about saving the planet, leaving a nicer environment behind for our babies. But, besides re-using plastic containers, what else can I do?
Anyone can do it, even YOU!
Save and re-use plastic containers. Use plastic shopping bags for trash.
You’ll feel better about tomorrow.
